Heartbeat

Jo's been really feeling the effects of the pregnancy lately. She's been having hot and cold flashes. She's been having heartburn and a little nausea. But she's also been having cramps and right and left side pain. We got a little worried when this dull aching pain that felt just like her endometrioma endured over the weekend. So this past Tuesday, we went to PAMF and saw the Nurse Practitioner/Midwife.

We knew Liz Lewis, the NP/MW, because she conducted the pre-natal class that we attended last week. She, herself, is preggy and ready to blow at any moment. Surprisingly, she gave Jo an ultrasound. She was worried about an ectopic pregnancy since the pain was on either side of the pelvic region. An ectopic pregnancy is where the embryo implants in one of the fallopian tubes (hence the left or right side pain) rather than the uterus. She wanted to see if the embryo properly implanted in the uterus. Sure enough, it did! We even got a special treat - we saw the little heartbeat of the lil' booger! Actually, neither Jo and I really saw it on the ultrasound screen, but Liz assured us that it was beating away.

The blessings didn't stop there. We went home in this pounding rain, and the God's angels were definitely watching over us.
